Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy is located at No. 156 Dayu Road, Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, 11 kilometers away from Shaolin Temple. Founded in 1980, the academy now has 12,090 enrolled students. As one of the earliest professional Kungfu academies in China, it has developed for more than 40 years into a comprehensive modern Kungfu education group. It integrates academic and Shaolin Kungfu teaching, film & television talent training, film production, art talent cultivation, Shaolin Kungfu performance, and international Kungfu cultural exchange.

It is a legally registered educational institution recognized by the educational authorities of Zhengzhou. Approved by public security and education administrative departments, it is qualified to enroll international students. It is also designated as a talent reserve base for special forces of the Chinese People’s Armed Police Force and the birthplace of Chinese Kungfu Street Dance.

Geographical Location

Nestled at the foot of the elegant Junji Peak of Songshan Mountain, Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy borders Shaolin Temple—the ancestral shrine of Zen—to the west, and Zhongyue Temple, the sacred Taoist resort, to the east. To the north lies the scholarly legacy of Songyang Academy; to the south rests the noble virtue heritage of Xu You at Ji Mountain. The academy is next to Wulin Garden in harmonious neighborhood, with National Highway 207 running right in front, offering convenient transportation extending in all directions.

Originally named Songshan Shaolin Kungfu School and founded in 1980, Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy is one of the earliest Kungfu academies established in China since the reform and opening-up. In 2007, it was rated as one of the three major education groups in Dengfeng by the Dengfeng Municipal Government.

Introduction to Founders

Chairman Chen Tongshan holds a bachelor’s degree and is ranked 8th Duan of Chinese Kungfu, a distinguished master of Shaolin Kungfu. Born into a Kungfu family, he has practiced since childhood, mastering traditional Shaolin routines and various weapons. He boasts exceptional attainments especially in Black Tiger Fist, Dharma Cane and long Shaolin weapons.

He has been awarded titles such as Top Ten Young Kungfu Masters, One of Shaolin Eighteen Vajras, Outstanding Academy Principal, Top-notch Professional Talent of Dengfeng, and Distinguished Inheritor of Dengfeng Folk Traditional Culture. He also serves as Member of Shaolin Kungfu Steering Committee of Chinese Kungfu Association, Member of Henan Kungfu Association, Specially Invited Vice Chairman of Zhengzhou Kungfu Association, and Executive Vice Chairman of Dengfeng Shaolin Kungfu Association.

Principal Chen Tongchuan is a CPC member, Deputy to Dengfeng Municipal People’s Congress, 8th Duan of Chinese Kungfu, one of the Shaolin Eighteen Vajras, a prestigious Shaolin Kungfu master and national Kungfu champion. He is especially proficient in soft weapons; his demonstration of Shaolin Meteor Hammer was recorded into standard teaching materials by the Chinese Kungfu Association for nationwide promotion.

In 1993, he visited Taiwan with the Songshan Shaolin Temple Buddhist Culture Delegation and was received cordially by political leaders including Chiang Ching-kuo and Hao Bocun. In 1997, commissioned by the General Administration of Sport of China, he traveled to Brunei to teach Shaolin Kungfu to the Prince of Brunei.

Campus Environment

Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy features a magnificent layout. It covers over 200 mu of land with a total construction area of more than 200,000 square meters. The campus is fully equipped with office buildings, teaching buildings, dormitory buildings, training halls, fitness centers, performance halls, basketball courts, libraries, audio-visual classrooms, medical rooms, laundry rooms, supermarkets and barbershops.

Office buildings, teaching buildings, dormitories and apartment buildings are well arranged in neat layout. Training halls, fitness venues and performance halls are complete with full functions. Canteens, bathhouses, libraries, audio-visual classrooms and medical rooms provide complete facilities and first-class services. School journals, cultural stone landscapes and Shaolin Kungfu cultural corridors enrich campus culture, fully reflecting modern standardized management.

Student rooms are equipped with air conditioners, televisions and shower facilities. The canteen adopts an open kitchen mode with fully traceable food ingredients.

It has established a Kungfu performance troupe, film & television art department and competitive training team, undertaking key missions of Dengfeng’s external Shaolin Kungfu cultural exchange.

The academy has participated in hundreds of large-scale events and opening ceremonies, and visited more than 80 countries and regions across Europe, Asia and America to promote Shaolin Kungfu cultural exchange. It has staged exclusive performances for many state leaders and received high praise.

Its film & television art troupe has appeared on major platforms including CCTV and Henan TV. It took the lead in integrating Shaolin Kungfu with dance, pioneering the art form of Kungfu dance. Connotation of the Name "Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy "

The full name of the school is Dengfeng Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy. Its name inherits the heritage of Shaolin culture, carries the influence of classic brand IP, and embodies the aspiration of talent cultivation, integrating traditional culture, brand value and educational philosophy.

Shaolin: Cultural Origin and Orthodox Inheritance

Located in the Shaolin Wushu Town of Songshan Mountain, Dengfeng, Henan Province, the school is close to Shaolin Temple. Co-founded by the Shaolin Village Committee and Shaolin Temple, it is one of the earliest professional Shaolin Kungfu colleges in China.
The prefix Shaolin defines its identity as an authentic inheritor of Shaolin Kung Fu, carrying the cultural essence of “the unity of Zen and Martial Arts”, distinguishing it from ordinary Shaolin Kungfu schools.

Origin of Xiaolong

Originally founded in 1980 as Songshan Shaolin Wushu School, it was renamed Shaolin Shi Xiaolong Wushu Academy in 2001, and simplified to Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy in 2019.
Xiaolong derives from the stage name of Master Shi Xiaolong, a famous Kung Fu child star and honorary principal of the school. He is an iconic symbol of the youth and international spread of Shaolin Kung Fu. Naming after him pays tribute to the representative Kung Fu celebrity and builds the school’s reputation as a cradle of Kung Fu stars.

Cultural Implication of "Dragon"

The dragon is the totem of the Chinese nation, symbolizing fortitude, courage, integrity and righteousness, which fits the spiritual core of Shaolin Kungfu: building physical fitness and upholding justice.
Xiaolong (Little Dragon) implies young learners as hidden dragons with unlimited potential, destined to rise and thrive, reflecting the school’s mission to cultivate outstanding teenage talents.
