Shaolin Kung Fu + Chinese Language Training Program of Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy
General Principles of the Program
Program Philosophy
Relying on Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy’s more than 40 years of educational heritage of “integrating shaolin kungfu and liberal arts, and cultivating both virtue and skills”, this program takes authentic Shaolin Kung Fu as the carrier and Chinese Language teaching as the core to achieve the dual goals of “practicing shaolin kungfu to cultivate the mind and learning language to spread culture”. It enables students to temper their physical fitness, inherit Shaolin culture, master practical Chinese skills, experience the in-depth integration of Chinese language and shaolin kungfu culture, and promote Sino-foreign cultural exchanges and dissemination.
School Support
Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy is a formal shaolin kungfu and liberal arts educational institution approved by both the Department of Education of Henan Province and the General Administration of Sport of China. It has a professional shaolin kungfu coach team composed of Shaolin Kung Fu inheritors and provincial champions, as well as a team of cultural course teachers with years of teaching experience. It is equipped with first-class facilities such as standardized shaolin kungfu training halls and multimedia classrooms, and also has exclusive integrated textbooks such as “Happy Martial Arts to Learn Chinese”, providing a solid guarantee for the implementation of the program.
Target Trainees
1. Overseas Chinese lovers and Shaolin Kung Fu lovers (12-70 years old);
2. Teenagers who hope to improve their comprehensive quality through shaolin kungfu + Chinese;
3. Personnel who plan to carry out Sino-foreign cultural exchanges and engage in shaolin kungfu teaching related work.
Training Duration
Three types of training periods are set to flexibly meet needs:
Short-term Class (7-15 days),
Medium-term Class (1-3 months), and
Long-term Class (6-12 months).
Core Training Content
Adopting a 1:1 ratio of “Kung Fu training + Chinese teaching”, it balances practical operation and theory to achieve mutual empowerment. Combining the school’s advantages in shaolin kungfu courses and Chinese teaching experience, it creates a characteristic integrated system.
Shaolin Kungfu Training (Core Module)
Taught by Shaolin Kung Fu inheritors and professional coaches, the teaching is stratified according to students’ foundations, balancing practicality and culture, and infiltrating martial ethics education simultaneously:
- Basic Level: Shaolin kungfu basics (kicking, punching, throwing, grasping), basic Shaolin fists (Xiaohong Fist, Luohan Fist), combined with Shaolin Baduanjin and other health-preserving exercises to temper physical fitness and cultivate self-discipline;
- Improvement Level: Traditional Shaolin routines, eighteen kinds of weapons (knife, spear, sword, staff), basic Sanda, combined with actual combat skills training to improve self-defense ability;
- Characteristic Level: Basic shaolin kungfu performance, introduction to Shaolin stunts (optional). Students can participate in relevant experiences of the school’s monk performance troupe to feel the artistic charm of Shaolin Kung Fu.
- At the same time, it integrates martial ethics education and gratitude and inspirational education, inherits the Shaolin spirit of “respecting teachers and valuing morality, and perseverance”, echoing the school’s teaching policy of “valuing both skills and morality”.
Chinese Language Studying (Core Module)
Taught by professional Chinese teachers, the teaching content is designed in combination with Kung Fu scenarios to meet students’ learning needs. It adopts adaptive textbooks such as “Happy Martial Arts to Learn Chinese”, focusing on cultivating practical communication ability:
- Basic Chinese: Pinyin, common Chinese characters, daily oral English (greetings, diet, accommodation, shopping), focusing on common expressions in Kung Fu training scenarios (such as action instructions, weapon names);
- Advanced Chinese: Simple reading, short sentence writing, designing topics around Shaolin culture and Kung Fu history to improve language application ability;
- Cultural Integration: Combining Chinese teaching, infiltrating traditional Chinese culture (calligraphy, poetry, traditional etiquette), linking with the school’s cultural course resources, allowing students to understand culture while learning language.
Characteristic Auxiliary Modules
- Cultural Experience: Visiting Shaolin Scenic Area and the school’s shaolin kungfu museum, watching Shaolin Kung Fu performances, and participating in experiences of traditional Chinese crafts such as calligraphy and paper-cutting;
- Communication Practice: Organizing interactions between Chinese and foreign students, Kung Fu and Chinese demonstrations, encouraging students to share their Kung Fu learning experience in Chinese to improve the proficiency of language use;
- Customized Services: For long-term class students, additional content such as Chinese proficiency test tutoring and shaolin kungfu coach qualification training can be added according to needs.
Teachers and Facilities Guarantee
Teaching Team
- Kung Fu Coaches: Members of the Eighteen Arhats of Shaolin, provincial/national shaolin kungfu champions, Shaolin Kung Fu inheritors, with rich teaching experience and able to provide simple bilingual guidance;
- Chinese Teachers: Graduates from well-known normal universities, with experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, familiar with Kung Fu culture, and good at designing teaching content combined with scenarios.
Teaching Facilities
It is equipped with standardized shaolin kungfu training halls, constant temperature training rooms, multimedia Chinese classrooms, libraries, as well as supporting facilities such as infirmaries, canteens and dormitories. It implements a fully closed management and 24-hour security patrol to ensure the safety and comfort of students’ study and life.
Training Achievements and Follow-up Services
- After the training, a graduation certificate of “Shaolin Kung Fu + Chinese” training issued by Shaolin Xiaolong Kungfu Academy will be awarded;
- Outstanding students can be recommended to participate in foreign exchange activities of the school’s International Performance Department, film and television shooting related activities, or apply for shaolin kungfu related professional colleges and universities;
- Long-term class students can enjoy follow-up Chinese and Kung Fu skills improvement guidance, and have priority to participate in the school’s “Chinese + Martial Arts” international exchange program.
